Coastal Empire Chapter of AUSA Gives Robes to Wounded Soldiers

Wounded 3rd Infantry Division soldiers will soon have a special gift waiting for them at hospitals and medical centers around the world, the result of a new local partnership.
The Coastal Empire Chapter of the Association of the United States Army recently teamed up with Coastal Signs/Fabri-Care Cleaners owner John Tzen to design robes that will be given to the division’s wounded troops recuperating from injuries on the battlefield.
“Normally what happens when a soldier is wounded is they grab him and, if it’s serious enough, there’s no grabbing his baggage. They just throw him on the helicopter, get him the back rear and stabilize him,” Coastal Empire AUSA president Lou Carreras said. “And, eventually, they end up in Germany or back in the states.
Wherever 3rd ID soldiers are sent, we’ll ship these robes to them so that when they arrive, they’ll have something to wear.”
Michael Plummer, executive director of the National Association of the 10th Mt. Div. Inc., donated the robes to the local AUSA chapter, after his organization was left with a surplus of robes from the Pendleton United Methodist Church in Pendleton, S.C.
Hoping to add a sense of “home,” Tzen’s employees will sew 3rd ID patches on all 240 robes, free of charge.
According to Carreras, the patchwork is scheduled to be complete and robes should be ready to ship within the next three weeks.
